Tainted Peanut Butter Products
Our law firm is currently investigating potential claims arising salmonella contamination of peanut butter products made with peanut butter and peanut butter paste manufactured by the Peanut Corporation of America.
Peanut butter produced by Peanut Corporation of America has been linked to an outbreak of salmonella poisoning that has affected at least 529 people in 44 states, federal health officials said recently. At least 8 people have died after eating contaminated products.
There are now more than 1800 products on a federal recall list because of possible contamination. Recently, the recall was expanded to include all peanut products manufactured by the Peanut Corp. of America's processing plant in Blakely, Ga., beginning Jan. 1, 2007. Since then, 35 food manufacturers have announced their first recalls or expanded recalls to include more products. For a list of the products cited by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, click here.
Recently, the Kellogg Company issued a recall of all of their products that contain peanut butter paste manufactured by the Peanut Corporation of America. The products affected are Austin- and Keebler-branded toasted peanut butter sandwich crackers, peanut butter and jelly sandwich crackers, cheese and peanut butter sandwich crackers, and peanut butter-chocolate sandwich crackers.
Many other products containing peanut butter or peanut butter paste made by the Peanut Corporation have also been recalled including ice creams, crackers and cookies.
Our firm has also been in litigation against ConAgra Foods, Inc. for negligence and product liability claims concerning the presence of salmonella bacteria in Peter Pan peanut butter and Great Value (Wal Mart brand) peanut butter.
Symptoms of illness caused by exposure to Salmonella include fever, diarrhea and abdominal cramps. In persons with poor underlying health or weakened immune systems, Salmonella can invade the bloodstream and cause life-threatening infections or death.
*** If you or a family member has suffered illness as a result of eating any tainted peanut butter products and you have medical documentation that you or your family member has suffered illness after eating the peanut butter products, please contact a West Palm Beach personal injury attorney at our office at (800) 443-4529 or (561) 684-6330 to discuss how we may be able to assist you. Or fill out the form on the left side of this page and your inquiry will be sent by e-mail to our office.
If you do seek medical treatment, please ask that a stool culture be done to try and confirm that you have been affected by salmonella. A stool culture is the only way to confirm the presence of Salmonella bacteria. The lack of a positive stool culture, however, will not preclude a claim.
If you have any of the peanut butter products, please put them in a plastic bag and place it in a cool spot, like your refrigerator. Do not return the product to the company, as we will need it to prove your claim.
