Salmonella Tainted Chicken Pot Pies

Our law firm is investigating claims against ConAgra Foods, Inc. for negligence and product liability claims concerning the presence of salmonella bacteria in its Banquet Chicken Pot Pies.  WE ARE NOT THE COMPANY THAT MAKES THE PRODUCT, SO PLEASE DO NOT CONTACT US ABOUT REFUNDS.

On October 9, 2007, ConAgra informed the public that some consumers were diagnosed with salmonella after eating its Banquet Turkey and Chicken Pot Pies. Conagra said it was told by health officials in several states that a number of consumers had salmonella after eating the pies.

Conagra is investigating the matter in conjunction with the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) conducted an extensive inspection of ConAgra's Sylvester, Georgia processing plant. Samples collected by the FDA reportedly revealed the presence of Salmonella. The fact that FDA found Salmonella in the plant environment further suggests that the contamination likely took place prior to the product reaching consumers. Furthermore, tests by several states identified Salmonella in many open jars of Peter Pan and Great Value peanut butter recovered from consumers. In these instances, the Salmonella found in the plant and in the open jars matched the outbreak strain recovered from consumers who became ill.

Symptoms of illness caused by exposure to Salmonella include fever, diarrhea and abdominal cramps. In persons with poor underlying health or weakened immune systems, Salmonella can invade the bloodstream and cause life-threatening infections or death.

*** If you or a family member has suffered illness as a result of eating a banquet chicken pot pie and you have medical documentation that you or your family member has suffered illness after eating the pot pie, please contact our office at (800) 443-4529 or (561) 684-6330 to discuss how we may be able to assist you.  Or fill out the form on the left side of this page and your inquiry will be sent by e-mail to our office.

If you do seek medical treatment, please ask that a stool culture be done to try and confirm that you have been affected by salmonella. A stool culture is the only way to confirm the presence of Salmonella bacteria. The lack of a positive stool culture, however, will not preclude a claim.

If you have any of the pot pies, please put it in a plastic bag and keep it in you freezer. Do not return the product to ConAgra, as we may need it to prove your claim.
